Ryan James Ford - Out Of The Wreckage

  • Euphoric techno inspired by pain, joy and sadness.

  • The title of Ryan James Ford's newest EP is autobiographical, referring to a year in which "pleasure, pain, joy, sadness and anger" fed into the Canadian-born, Berlin-based producer's creative and mental state. You can hear it all on Out Of The Wreckage, which, in spite of the setbacks that inspired it, is Ford's most euphoric yet. This lightness is thanks to the sunbeam-like synths across the EP. On "Aylith Yard," one of two tracks that references Ford's native Calgary, the synths cut through keys and a restless squiggle of beats in what will make a sublime daybreak set closer. They're also especially notable on "Erinwoods," where they glow eerily atop a simple kick and cricket-like bleeps. Of all the tracks, "Public Domain" hits hardest. A pumping kick, icy synth blasts and a springy bassline tango in a barnstorming bit of braindance. His tough yet delicate brand of techno has never felt more affecting.
