  • Jordon Alexander is better known as Mall Grab. The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter, the second EP on his Looking For Trouble label, is the first under his real name. The tracks are meant to be personal, documenting what the Australian producer calls "the most turbulent, formative and important years of [his] life." But "More Than I Ever Thought I Could," which he's used to close many of his sets, is standard electro that doesn't reflect those intentions. The humour of his work is replaced with a stuffy streak of purism. The crackle of vinyl surface noise on "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter" is more familiar. It has the hallmarks of one of those tracks with a million plays on YouTube: synths with soft-focus edges, surging arpeggios and a dusty keyboard riff that sounds like the one on Mall Grab's 2016 track "Can't." Samples from the 1968 film The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter complete the formula. "I think up music no one's ever written," says the vocal. But this record sticks too close to the script.
