  • The Tunisian producer Deena Abdelwahed made waves last year by integrating Arabic rhythmic structures and samples into a twisted bass, techno and ambient record called Khonnar. The album was more about restructuring existing musical styles rather than attempting to produce anything particularly new, and it worked. M.E.S.H., one of four artists enlisted to remix "Tawa," does his usual hi-tech deconstruction to the glitched and jammed pummelling of the original's melodic ambient sound. Basile3's is more delicate, reassembling the track's elements to produce a spacious post-club journey. Clip's contribution is more straightforward, stretching the original's most vital elements across seven minutes of deep house. Karen Gwyer remixes "Ken Skett." The original's oscillating build-up propels it through a tunnel of tuneful synth sequences. The result is disorienting in a way that feels exhausting until Gwyer adds another layer of urgent, electro-esque tones.
