Dresvn - 3 Trax

  • Drowsy house tracks from two masters of the style.

  • As Dresvn, Dynamo Dreesen and SVN operate in the heady interzone between rousing and drowsy. A track like "Brunswick," the languorous, ten-minute B-side of their latest record, finds that area's sweet spot. Subtle, hypnotic and just driving enough, it's a piece of scuffed dub techno that could easily go on forever. It's the casually brilliant highlight on their latest EP. 3 Trax keep things simple, holding exactly what its title suggests with three simple tunes recorded live to tape while the duo were traveling. But the other two tunes don't drift into the zoned-out headspace of "Brunswick." The clacking drums of "Cole's Farm"—which features live drums from Rocketnumbernine's Tom Page—get close, but there could be more of the "peculiar funk" Tony Poland referenced two years ago. That leaves "Shelly Beach," a Chicago-style jam with a lively bassline that feels hemmed in by the rest of the track, like insect buzzing inside a jar.
