- A solid off-kilter house EP from Seth Troxler and Phil Moffa.
- Seth Troxler and Phil Moffa want to be more than just a dance music duo. Their first release as Lost Souls Of Saturn was a beatless ten-minute remix of the Lebanese band Mashrou' Leila. Their debut live show, an ambient set, took place underneath Ernesto Neto's giant sculpture in the concourse of Zurich's largest train station. Troxler and Moffa describe Lost Souls Of Saturn as a "multidisciplinary conceptual" project and reference artists like The KLF and Sun Ra. Their second Lost Souls Of Saturn EP, however, sidesteps all that—it's essentially just off-kilter house. But it's also pretty good.
Troxler's love of extended, minimalist grooves and Moffa's fondness for hardware and intricate manipulation come together nicely on "Holes In The Holoverse," though there is sometimes too much going on—the choral pads, for example, feel unnecessary. "World Of The Wars" wisely keeps its busier sounds in the backdrop, where they creak, whirr and crackle behind a looping synth bassline. Moffa and Troxler tap the German artist Wolfgang Tillmans for his first official remix, which winds up being the EP's highlight. Tillmans' version of "World Of The Wars" is more spacious, adds a driving bassline and, best of all, has Tillmans muttering phrases such as "va va voom." It adds a touch of the unusual flavour Troxler and Moffa seem to be striving for.
