- A Berlin tech house institution turns ten.
- Ten years and almost 50 releases in, we can safely call Keinemusik a Berlin institution. It specialises in the glitter-soaked tech house you hear throughout the city, where crowds at clubs like Ritter Butzke and Sisyphos dance at marathon parties that stretch from Friday night to Monday morning (and often later). Melodic and full of hooks, the Keinemusik sound is epic, emotional and—depending on your taste—a little bit cheesy. A decade-long commitment to this colourful style has ensured the crew, which includes the four artists on the Hand In Hand EP, found an important place in the Berlin scene, even if you're now more likely to catch them DJing elsewhere.
As Hand In Hand shows, it's easy to hear the appeal in Keinemusik's sound. The beats are steady and the moods are bright, the kind of tracks that are easy to mix—even eight hours into a Sunday slot at Sisyphos—but pack enough character to inject life into the most dazed afterhours dance floors. "Schuhu's Groove" by Reznik is the biggest track here, a jacking synth workout with sharp chords and a nu-disco bassline. "Fairchild" by &ME is more sensitive, thanks to piano, strings and an introspective atmosphere. Then there's an Adam Port edit of "Eme Lelu" by Quim Manuel O Espirito Santo and "For This" by Rampa, both of which are built around vocals. The "sound of Berlin" means a range of styles—classic house, bleak techno—and labels like Keinemusik represent one of them.
