  • Chris Liebing is one the best techno artists coming from Germany. Since November 1995 when he held the residency at the legendary club Omen in Frankfurt, he succeeded in creating quite a few record labels and a myth around him. His latest achievements include the creation of influential CL Recordings (CLR), Clau, CL Retry, Stigmata Records and winning the German dance award in the category best national DJ in 2003, where Paul van Dyk, Sven Väth & Westbam were also nominated. Stigmata Records was born in 1999 as the underground offspring of studio partners Chris Liebing and André Walter. Packed just in black covers, the mysterious 4 tracker series has so far been identified as parts 1 to 10 and were all written and produced by Chris and Walter themselves. The last release of this series (No 10) was back in 2003 on a double pack 12” which broke the tradition of the plain black sleeves and carried the distinctive Stigmata head motif as well as 8 tracks instead of 4. The label’s music orientation was initially closer to Schranz, but after a few releases it can be referred to as “heavy - duty” Techno. The Stigmata sound could better be described as techno with hard - Schranz - elements which combines tough driving grooves and dark edged funk along with melodic references. Stigmata Chapter One – The Complete Collection is a mixed CD compiled and mixed by the man himself, Chris Liebing. He used the software “Ableton Live” in order to do that and believe me, his mixing is flawless (as always). The CD is consisted of all 44 tracks previously released in this series, and by the first beat you can understand what will come out of your speakers for the rest 74 minutes. Techno - techno - techno. The unique mix by Chris even gave my girlfriend the “goosebumps” while we were listening to it on my car’s stereo! I think that this is one of the best techno mixes I’ve heard so far, which is fast, hard and efficient. Its supreme “filthiness” and hardcore style will definitely satisfy even the most difficult techno-head. Those who listened to at least one of the previous Stigmata releases know exactly what I mean. What is interesting is that after the release date (October 2004), there is a chance for all fans to download the Stigmata parts for FREE from CL’s or Stigmata’s official websites, together with a demo version of Ableton Live from Ableton’s website in order to make their own Stigmata compilation.
