- Minimal Afrika is the Italian duo Marco Guizzi and Luca Fontaneto. Each producer has a vast solo catalogue, but they've only been active as Minimal Afrika since 2016. Swamp, released through E-Beamz, runs on a mutant disco groove that's both energetic and understated. The title track's watery echo is accompanied by a clipped steel drum that blends with the easygoing bump of different percussive samples. "Tropifunkammammet" is more minimal, a pinpoint melody swaggering on a tropical funk rhythm. "Cleaning Service"'s tom-led broken beat comes with a hand drum that knocks it sideways. The synth sequence on "Blissful," though familiar, bubbles and flows along nicely. Like DJ Boring's "Winona," an early E-Beamz release that sent the listener back in time with samples from the '90s icon Winona Ryder, Swamp has a comforting air of escape.
