D.Dan - Covert Operation

  • Slamming techno and acid to rattle dance floors.

  • Berlin's D.Dan makes music that reflects his hometown's techno landscape. He's been releasing music since 2016, exploring dub techno, techno and acid, pairing his tracks with titles that play on his name ("If Ya Name's Not Dan Ya Not Comin In," "Danarchy In The UK"). His latest EP for Lobster Theremin is the first that doesn't include his name in any of the track titles, making it feel like a new chapter for his productions. Dan's slamming techno reaches new peaks on Covert Operation. First posted on his SoundCloud page in 2016, "Sudan Sedan" is a brain-melter that blends rumbling techno with chopped vocals. At one point the track slowly fades into silence, after which the wonky arp line and the lethal kick drum slam back in. The sprawling arps spill over into the title track, adding a freaky edge to the tight percussion. "Suspicious Frozen Products" feels in line with the distorted charm of some of his earlier music, with a gnarly 303 contrasting with the crystalline sheen of the arps found earlier in the record. There's no doubt these slammers will rattle plenty of dance floors.
