- There's a photo of the DAT that holds the original recordings of Transllusion's A Moment of Insanity. It's a rare artefact from the studio in which James Stinson made music as Transllusion in the early '00s. The DAT has been released on vinyl through Aqualung, a series that has put out music from James Stinson's and Gerald Donald's numerous aliases. Each track on A Moment Of Insanity is a dubbed a "Moment," and appear in numerical order.
The late Stinson's chaotic, discordant electro as Transllusion was utterly hypnotic and A Moment Of Insanity is no different. "Moment 1" shows Stinson's skill for tracks that subtly build with no climatic peak. A moody synth line meets high frequency squelches and ticking 808 hi-hats for the loop that anchors the tune. "Moment 3" and "Moment 4" are noisier, while the broken, stormy rhythm of "Moment 3" is paired with eerie synths and plinking piano. The creepy whirr of "Moment 2" could have been recorded yesterday, towing the line between electro and minimal that labels like Cabaret Recordings beautifully explore. As Clone says, "James Stinson can be seen as one of the last few techno musicians from his generation that lived up to the high expectations of moving forward."
