- Nostalgic club tracks on Shanti Celeste's label.
- Since its inception in 2016, Shanti Celeste's Peach Discs has spread the Bristol artist's joyful message through five grin-inducing releases. The label is also becoming known for introducing new talent. We've had Toronto's Ciel, who provided a lush debut in 2017, and Fred, a pair of Bristol natives who, like Celeste, cut their teeth in the city's Idle Hands record shop.
Next up is another newcomer, Videopath, who presents two effective, nostalgic club tracks. They don't manage to sound as curious as Celeste's own debut, which dipped into breaks and ambient, or Ciel's, an exploration through moody electro. But Celeste's sets show a soft spot for classic-sounding bangers, so Videopath's straightforward offering isn't a surprise.
"A Cure For Melancholy" is led by hefty drums, an uplifting earworm bassline and some wiggly synths that creep in towards that end. It's a repetitive tune that doesn't do a ton but still manages to keep you interested. "And So Do Eye" nods to the '90s with its mix of classic organs, beautiful keys and diva vocals for a tune that sounds like vintage Masters At Work—exactly the kind of thing Celeste would drop on a smiling summer dance floor. A Cure For Melancholy isn't the strongest release in Peach Discs' already impressive discography, but it still packs two quality tracks that are welcomingly energetic.
