  • Miss Kittin's latest single, 1993 EACID, isn't the first time the French artist committed the word "acid" to tape—2012's Life Is My Teacher EP also showed her acidic side, and she drawled the word over a more recent remix for the French duo Acid Washed. The title of her new one pays homage to the genre's booming early years, the period in which Richie Hawtin released his first records as Plastikman. But "1993 EACID" is less about 303 trills and aqueous basslines than cutting hi-hats and glacial drones. Kittin's voice skips as she breaks up the word "acid" into a motif that floats above the drums and lodges itself in listeners' brains. The Truncate remix brings out a more prominent acid touch. Pounding bass and a swirling synth melody replace the hi-hat-heavy foundations of the original before Truncate brings in a steadily building 303 line. Both tracks are peak-time material.
