- Over the last few years, Facta has appeared on almost every UK-flavored hybrid techno label (Tempa, Keysound and Idle Hands, to name a notable few). It's only natural, then, that he would eventually land on Livity Sound. "Dumb Hummer" and "All The Time" aren't the attention-grabbing peak-time bangers that everyone will remember the next morning. Nor do they represent any kind of unexpected departure from the Livity Sound oeuvre. And that's OK—you can't build a whole techno set out of bangers and curveballs (or you could, but most seasoned DJs probably wouldn't advise it). These are artfully produced and subtly unusual club tools that will provide a curious inflection point in a range of DJ sets, without blowing the lid off the place.
"Dumb Hummer," a classic UK blend of bass music and modern house, is a fun one to mix. The negative space not only lets the personality in the drums ring out, but leaves plenty of room for layering incoming or outgoing grooves. It manages to suggest a swinging four-on-the-floor rhythm and a half-time downbeat at the same time, making it a nice option for transitioning between styles. "All The Time" is the more subdued of the two, though the quirky percussion and swing give it the character it needs. The pacing is clever. Facta waits until after the three-minute mark to introduce the track's key element, a sharp organ stab that makes the whole groove click. Other producers should take note of this restraint—you don't need to play your best cards at the beginning of the game.
