Spacetravel - Metroname

  • On Spacetravel's Perlon debut, Dancing Therapy, panoramic pads glided through swinging, garage-tinged drums. It was smooth minimal with a wonky touch, prime for the orange and pink glow of a sunset beach party. Metroname, his follow up for the label, starts with the title track, which continues the mood of Dancing Therapy. It invites you in with the shiny allure of spacey pads, which are held in an eyes-closed state for 45 seconds before jacking percussion brings the track bursting to life. It's Spacetravel at his most beautiful. The rest of the EP has a more discordant tone. Creepy, wobbling synths vibrate through "13" and "23," creating an especially disorientating Doppler effect on the former. The light and momentum that kept "Metroname" bouncing give way to a ghoulish strut that should be saved for the more experimental moments of a set. "Truth Vibration" strikes a medium between those two moods, with haunted synths and an eerie voice buried in the skipping drums and buoyant bassline.
