- Christian Cambas, you may remember, impressed so much with his ‘It Scares Me’ release on Bedrock Records. The Greek producer now returns to kick start the Heavy Rotation label with his latest effort, Obsession, featuring the vocals of Karen Soloman.
First up on the a-side is the Dub Mix, and it features the usual melodic vibes of Cambas’ work. The track builds nicely with the work of some strong beats and good filtered vocal effects. A deep chunky baseline comes in early to help build the track, and not before long the track really takes off when the baseline become a little grittier, and swirling melodies take off. The beats come back in combined with the melodies and from this point the track hits full throttle.
The Original Mix is on the flip and for me this mix is nowhere near as strong as the dub. The vocals for me are overpowered by the musical elements and are hardly as strong as they need to be. On the whole the track is quite nice, but not as powerful and purposeful as the dub.
Not a bad release to open up proceedings from the label, and with the next 3 releases already lined up, it appears Heavy Rotation are quite keen to set their stall.
