Various - No Return Vol. 2

  • The hard, distorted and dark corners that Helena Hauff swerves between as a DJ and producer are mirrored by the releases on her label, Return To Disorder. But until now, the Hamburg artist's music has never appeared there. Her latest track, "Sloe," closes out the label's second compilation, No Return Vol. 2. It's a frantic ride of tough techno with pixelated synths that flow like a river current gathering pace, with hushed vocals submerged beneath the rapids. The track's frenzied intensity is an apt closer to a compilation that works with the paranoid rhythms of electro, techno and EBM. No Return Vol. 2 is the sound of anxiety and stomach-lurching suspense. L.F.T.'s "Flare" is a rickety, vampiric EBM cut with monstrous vocals talking about "weird tentacled creatures" from other worlds. The delightful spookiness of the compilation builds to the stomping, relentless growl of Morah's "Cold Water In My Glass," pure adrenaline brewed into industrial techno.
