DJ Heure - Eastbound

  • Although Adelaide doesn't have a particularly large electronic music scene, it does have a tight-knit community of talented producers. One of them is DJ Heure, whose glistening brand of house has caught the attention of UK labels like Distant Hawaii and All My Thoughts. On Eastbound, Heure's debut release on New York City's Let's Play House, he maintains the wonky percussion that has been a hallmark in his work. It's particularly fun in "Take Dat Chance," where punchy, disco-influenced drums are punctuated with dubby vocals and choppy chords reminiscent of Soundstream. "Eastbound" errs toward breakbeat, with woozy synths filling out the track. Those attributes make a more interesting combination in the low-slung "Last One," where resonant pads wash over the track and an off-kilter whistle gives a whimsical touch. Things get speedier in "The Feeling," as its crystalline melodies make for a finale edging toward the euphoric.
