Physical Therapy - House Crime Vol. 10

  • Physical Therapy's latest EP, House Crime Vol. 10, explores the darker side of his leftfield sound. Returning to rumbling house and tense acid found on 2015's Waiting Room In DJ Hell, his last appearance on a label owned by DJ Haus, it's a detour from the technicolour sound of his more recent releases. From the moment sparse rave synths and dry hi-hats open "Vaseline Break," you can picture lasers darting across the club while dancers wait in the darkness for the first kick drum. The dopamine rushes as a distorted 4/4 kick appears, after which a euphoric vocal and crisp breaks propel the track even further into elation. It's a well-travelled sequence of sounds but it's fresh and exciting in Physical Therapy's hands. More sweat drips off the walls as "Grater" drags dancers deeper into hypnosis with hard and loopy techno that teases euphoric keys. The energy maintains a constant flow on "The Pressure," but "Don't Let Me Be Lonely" dials it down a notch, easing listeners towards the end of the night. This EP is bound to get the club bouncing.
