Dan Only - The Wurly Chronicles

  • Share
  • Dan Only emerged from Toronto's underground with an EP on New Kanada late last year. His second release, out on Dirt Crew Recordings, presents deeper sounds while retaining a high attention to detail. As an avid collector of vintage hardware, you can hear the analogue warmth of Dan Only's synths across the package, aptly named after his Wurlitzer. A steady bass groove and fidgeting hi-hats make "It's Clear" a safe warm-up track. "Be Major…Believe" brings a more intricate rhythm and drawn-out track progression with sounds reminiscent of Floating Points' Shadows EP. "Don't You Understand" has an upbeat groove packed with rich subtleties and an understated punch. "Truffles" is the EP's highlight and a serious mood booster. With twists and turns throughout, it's an Italo-fused house jewel that evokes feelings of a hedonistic night out, somewhere under a disco ball.
