- Sam Binga and Danny Scrilla are Cosmic Bridge mainstays, yet Weird In Munich is their first collaboration. Where the former's discography is brimming with them—Om Unit, Warrior Queen, Chimpo—the latter has racked up solo releases. They're styles differ, too. Binga tends to marry footwork with drum & bass, while Scrilla's approach is moody and melodic. They seem well matched, but Weird In Munich isn't as weird as you might expect.
"Frolic In Brine" fidgets and rattles with the tribally drums Sam Binga is known for, but this isn't one of his usual footwork-style tear outs. It's more swollen and swampy, instead opting for a meandering slow-burn. Manic arpeggios help stir up the murk, but the stoned mood prevails. "Further Peaks" is notably tougher, with thumping sub-bass and techier trimmings. It packs more of a punch while also remaining aloof from the floor. If that's the head space you're after, it's fine. But what if these two went fully into the dance? That's a record I want to hear.
