Giuliano Lomonte ‎- La Musique

  • It takes confidence to release house tracks that aren't much more than a bassline, percussion and light background samples. It takes even more to put out a record solely comprising two of them. But that doesn't seem to bother Giuliano Lomonte, an Italian producer living in Berlin. His La Musique EP features two side-long cuts guaranteed to get dance floors moving, despite being about as stripped-down as house music gets in 2017. Like the German producer Baaz, Lomonte knows how to make killer basslines. La Musique has two. The best is on the title track, where a growl, presumably tweaked after being played live with keys, chugs underneath solid percussion that feels faster than its 126 BPM. "La Musique" is a subtle track, but, thanks to that bassline, it has big-room potential. (Ricardo Villalobos seems to think so, too.) Its sporadic French vocal ("la musique") always lands at the right time—like, for instance, at the end of a short breakdown about one-third through. Its brevity leaves you wanting more, which is the same feeling you get from "Journey To The Moon." The vibe is dreamier and the low-end sparser, which makes it a handy option for a party's opening slot.
