ASC - Internal Software

  • ASC is a great shapeshifter. His style fluctuates from record to record, but everything he makes is high quality. His discography cuts across tempos, taking in deep techno for Auxiliary, drum & bass for Samurai Music or ambient for Silent Season. Last year's Geocentric Systems for Horo stood out as one of ASC's more high-powered releases, especially when compared to, say, the airy The Farthest Reaches. Internal Software for Emmanuel's ARTS label sits somewhere in between. On Internal Software, you can get sucked into "Soma"'s unspooling bassline and trace its slow unravelling. Or you can trip out to "Simplex," a gurgling techno track with a drum & bass flair. Its tribal-trance undertones and dystopian atmospheres recall the intoxicating bleakness of Milton Bradley. "Colonies" is more nuanced, but cooly minimal and functional as well. "Centric" leaves the most lasting impression. It floods through the speakers, filling the room with an ASC mist that cuts you off from everything else.
