- The first single to be lifted from Orange County's Crystal Method Legion Of Boom LP is Born Too Slow - a collaborative effort with ex-Limp Bizkit guitarist, Wes Borland and vocals from ex-Kyuss frontman, John Garcia, and it follows on from the rock-infused breaks style they explored on their previous album, Tweekend.
Main Mix
Sounding like a cross between West Coast US breakbeat and rock, the original mix opens up with twangy Borland style guitar riffs and nu-skool breakbeats while John Garcia screams and wails on the mic. Very aggressive indeed. Wes changes from a rock riff to incorporating some country slide guitar techniques while the Method provide some long stirring synths and rocky bass lines.
Nubreed Mix
Nubreed mix doesn't really differ from the original, keeping the synths and drums mostly intact while they lose Wes' guitar riffs. Instead the boys drop in some heavier bass, chunkier drum beats and during the breakdown they introduce bigger synths and more syncopated drum beats.
EK's Mix
EK's mix make use of crisp drum beats, warbling acid bass and brings back Wes' guitar riffs to minimal effect, while EK offers up some heavy synth action, a wicked percussive break and plenty of manic effects and stabs.
Deepsky's Green Absinthe Mix
Deepsky go for a four to the floor tribal progressive feel rather than using breakbeats as the previous three did. Dark drum beats and deep basslines make up the introduction before they bring in John's vocals and chop up Wes' guitars throughout. Deepsky keep most of the original components intact while adding in a few of their own acid effects and distorted guitar strums.
Personally, the original does it for me but the remixes by Nubreed and in particular EK are pretty tidy breaks mixes designed for a breaks dancefloor than a festival moshpit.
