- Now I must confess that Dammelo by Barbera Brown has been around in some form or another for a little while now, maybe even a few years, originally released on the Strive imprint. I was first introduced to the original mix by Alternative Route label owner Desyn Masiello in a promo mix he did all those years ago, and he obviously felt the track was so good that it needed a re-release, with remixes from Paolo Mojo and Adam Freemer.
The Original Mix I also must confess hasn’t aged a single bit in all those years. Still incredibly fresh and cutting edge, the track builds very nicely with a chunky kick drum as well as some quirky looped effects. A seductive simple vocal line rides the track for the most part as it maintains a pretty solid flow, breaking down in a filtered way early on which introduces the nice main synth pattern. It’s a very solid production, and a track that would definitely work some magic on a dancefloor to this day.
First up on the flip is the Paolo Mojo Remix. Paolo has definitely been making some good music of late and this remix is certainly no exception, as Paolo turns in a quirky remix of Dammelo. Warm bubble drums and melodices unite in great harmony as the track builds, with the vocal line getting effected to great use. A real highlight is the beautiful way in which the melodies and baseline take shape mirroring the main synth pattern from the original mix. Another hot production from Paolo Mojo showing this guy is much much more then a quality DJ.
Following this is the Adam Freemer Remix which takes a more tribal and percussive approach. Quite dark and minimal, this remix flows nicely with nice crisp sounds and effects, especially the nice smooth atmospheric hum that covers the production for the most part. The vocal is nicely effected and has a haunting feel making this a very intricate and delightful remix.
Another fantastic release from Alternative Route, and with the forthcoming line up looking just as impressive, it appears things will only get better.
