  • The second release on Sketches Records comes from a new project called ar.at. It follows Stekke's Lessing, a 12-inch that caught a decent amount of attention upon its release in June thanks to a Thomas Melchior remix. An effortlessly classy and sentimental gem, Melchior's rework captured what's great about his productions. Judging by the similarly stellar title track on Graphics, ar.at's nailed the theme the Sketches founders are exploring with their label. This EP's clear highlight, "Graphics" is a slow moving, low-slung deep house cut built around a melodic, Tin Man-style acid bassline. "OSC 02," an average atmospheric minimal tune, topped RA's October DJ charts, which is surprising but not without reason. It's a handy dance floor tool in line with much-loved artists like SIT, Priku and Varhat, but anyone with a handful of records from labels like [a:rpia:r], Amphia and Metereze has more effective options to cue up. Voigtmann beefs up the percussion and bassline on his remix of the title track, giving its earworm melody a new home among thumping drums and heavy bass stabs. It's the version of "Graphics" you'll most likely hear out, but if you catch the more subdued and poignant original in a party's early hours, it might leave a stronger impression.
