D. Carbone - Acid Life EP

  • Acid Life is the first EP on D. Carbone's eponymous label, and it pretty much picks up where his last 3TH record left off. This time, however, the '90s theme is a more explicit influence on the producer's fast, furious, destructive club music. Though he's without his usual Repitch label mates here, Carbone hasn't kicked the collaborative bug. On opener "Marzahn," he teams with Gaja, another Italian expat with a taste for analogue acid and techno. Their collaboration sets a whiplash pace, but as per the best Carbone productions, there's deeper sounds at work behind the acerbic front. The gnarled "Acid Should Be" stands out for its wild ride back to the warehouses of yore. It's one long, delirious rush that's more exhilarating than exhausting. On the other hand, closer "Acid's Desire" follows a more moody course with a more manageable tempo. Acid Life is another sturdy mix of raw sounds and retro refractions from a consistently appealing artist.
