POB & Taylor – Aura

  • The mighty Bedrock Records return to the scene after the illustrious 50th Anniversary releases. TO mark their first release of 2004, they have called upon the services of classic producers POB & Taylor, a pairing who already have many productions to their names, and also producers who have produced many a classic on their own. The two American producers now see if they can bring their Aura to the Bedrock label. On the a-side is the Northern Lights Mix, which for me is the slightly better mix of the two. The track begins with the trademark acidic bounces of POB’s production work in particular. The beats roll nicely as gritty subtle edges make their mark in the production, shortly before the main melodic hooks get stuck into the production. The track slowly builds, and builds nicely late on in particular as some beautiful string patterns emerge from the rafters. A quality production on the whole. On the flip is the Heavy Tone Mix which is also very impressive. Not as uplifting as the a-side, the track features some vocal snippets that ride over the tougher beat patterns and subtle melodic hooks. The breakdown midway features some nice melodic tones, and also sees the track take a slightly different direction as tough synth stabs attack the production. A pretty high quality release and back to action from Bedrock, with these two great producers turning on the style.
