Orchid – Galactic Railroad / Starlight

  • The next release on Hope Recordings is a mightily impressive set of productions from Orchid, who set the label alight with two quality productions that are sure to receive the praise and attention they deserve. New additions to the Hope line up, Orchid provide the label with the 50th release, and this release I must say proves to be a quality way to celebrate such a milestone. On the a-side is Galactic Railroad. The track begins with some very solid baselines amongst crisp drum patterns and a nice soothing string pattern that sets a very nice mood for the production. For the first half the track builds with some very nice melodic tones that twinkle above the solids beats and low end driving rumbles. The breakdown midway sees the track take a nice direction, as broken beats are layered for a few moments all while melodic overtones keep the track on a solid path. Stunning to say the least, this track is beautifully constructed and remains very upbeat and interesting throughout. Starlight on the flip is just as stunning as the production on the a-side. Broken beats begin the track as soothing melodic synths soon enter the track early on combined with an echo of warm pads and bubbly sounds. A driving baseline soon makes its home in the production, giving it that all important groove that helps the track progress as the melodies increase in presence. A real highlight is the stunning breakdown midway in that sees delightful string patterns meet vocal wails, that continue into the track as the beats come rolling back in. What a fantastic debut release for Orchid on Hope, demonstrating the point that there is some fantastic music coming out at the moment. With a debut release like this, hopefully we can expect to see more from Orchid in the near future!
