Grayarea – Gravity

  • The boys from Grayarea have been doing their thing on the production scene for a little while now, but this release on Hope Recordings I feel could be the track that really gets Grayarea’s name into more record boxes. Gravity is quite simply a massive peak time production, and it is quite a contrast to many of Grayarea’s quirky breakbeat productions. This one sided release is limited to 1000 copies, and it features the massive Original mix. Gravity begins off with some nice crisp tribal drums, as the track builds for the first minute or so with a nice tight loop of mostly percussive sounds. Soon enough some warm pads enter the track, and not before long, the first breakdown introduces the main smooth synth patterns of the production, but also introduces the main vocals of Erik Shepard. The beats soon come back in, and the track flows very nicely with the combination of Erik’s vocal, the smooth synths and the nice looped beats of Grayarea’s solid 4/4 beat structure. The main breakdown soon awaits us, and sees the main chorus of the vocal as well as a rise in intensity of the synth patterns take this track to another level, also helped by a nice subtle baseline that hits as the beats come back in. A very nice uplifting production for Grayarea, and for me it’s up there with one of their best productions mainly due to the fact that the formula is quite simple, and it simply works very well. Definitely a production that will appeal to many, as it already has to the likes of Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and James Holden to name but just a few. Look out for forthcoming remixes from Hybrid and another Grayarea interpretation.
