Various - DJ Overdose X DJ Technician

  • A sub-label of Pinkman, Charlois takes its name from a district in Rotterdam, the Dutch city where label boss Marsman and his endeavours are based. Not that Charlois is fiercely local or anything: its next release is more indebted to Den Haag, coming from friends and scene veterans DJ Overdose (who now lives in Rotterdam) and DJ Technician. Overdose has recently released on L.I.E.S., Berceuse Heroique, Unknown To The Unknown and Pinkman, but there hasn't been a Technician record in some time. His appearance adds extra clout to this already loaded record, especially for loyalists to the Dutch west coast cause. You don't need to know the history to enjoy this deft range of electro, but it might help you get Overdose's joke at the end. "Why Does Nobody Answer The Phone" is a dark response to Technician's equal doomy 1998 Bunker track "Never Answer The Phone." As for Technician's long-awaited return, the catchy "Sync" and paranoid "DSS Part II" don't disappoint. Be sure to savour them, because who knows when the next one may land.
