Versa - Chanting Souls

  • The NY based crew at SAW return for the 31st release on their illustrious label with a production from a local boy named Davidson Ospina in his guise as Versa. He delivers Chanting Souls which is aided with a remix from Guy Gerber. Firstly on the a-side is the Original Filter 14 Ospina Mix. The track is quite chunky from the word go, as expected from Satoshi’s SAW label, with the baseline rumbling along nicely amongst solid beats and a wailing female vocal. The track maintains a bit of a tribal feel for its duration, as the vocal samples ring in and out adding a haunting aura to the overall track. One can’t help but feel though that this track could do a bit of damage on a proper sound system. Following this is an Accapella and a set of Beats for the clever DJ’s out there. Guy Gerber’s Glowing Edge Mix follows on the flip and his instantly ups the vibe with a set of electro fuelled beats and synths. The electro patterns that follow though are quite addictive to say the least, as Gerber’s hits the summer vibe with this quality remix. This is a very strong record to say the least, and it must be quite hard to dislike this stunning b-side anthem, that uses the electro patterns amongst a set of quirky beats and vocal snippets to perfection. Very nice from SAW, and a track that is sure to put the label back in the boxes of many a DJ due to the crossover appeal of the b-side in particular.
