Parallel Sound - Stuck In My Head

  • Parallel Sound open their 2004 account with the driving 'Stuck in My Head', being released on Sinister Recordings. I've heard this out live a few times, and have really looked forward to its vinyl release. The original mix kicks off with the percussive hook and kick drum straight away, giving the track its underlying funky tribal rhythm from the start, a really nice groove which lingers throughout the track. The vocal sample follows suite quickly, giving a bit more depth. But the strength in this track is in its bass line. While being quite a proggy bass line, it is tough and deep, without losing its strength, and manages to stay nice and warm at the same time. Again this loops throughout most of the track, complimenting the percussion beautifully. The track moves along nicely with some nice high pads adding plenty of warmth, never getting too aggressive, but not losing its groove either. While its not a slamming peak time track, it definitely has its place in the record box for those hours of the morning when the club kids need some feeling and atmospherics. The guys do tend to beef it up though in their live sets. On the flip-side, Big Head use to full extent their Latin origins with a crisp little percussive remix. Taking full advantage of some nice bongo's and conga''s, they litter the track with loads of little percussive fills, dropping back into the bass line nicely each time, structuring the track well. Their production skills shine through on the breakdown, very different, and very original. It is quite daring, and runs the risk of being too light on, but it stretches out with an ambient approach and builds up slowly, but surely back into the groove. Something their Buenos Aires buddy Hernan might like to play. Another solid and original release from this up and coming independent label.
