Sepp - Trubadurul EP

  • Those who regularly catch sets from DJs like Zip, Ricardo Villalobos and Rhadoo might be familiar with a certain mood at the end of a long session. It's the party's final hours and the music has taken a pleasantly strange turn. When certain DJs are in control, most of the records they play fall into one of two categories: quirky, high-energy bombs or long, rolling tools. The latter tracks are usually the hardest to find afterwards, as they're always stripped-down and have no obvious hooks or identifiers. When you do stumble upon one online, it's usually by chance. Fans of those kinds of tracks are in luck: Sepp's Trubadurul EP has a doozy. The EP is the first on Sepp's new Catren label. It's the Romanian's only solo release of 2015, which is a surprise considering how productive he's been in previous years (he appeared on four releases in 2014, and even more in 2013). "Glas Din Stele" is the cut you'll want to reach for here. At 15 minutes long, it's perfect for late-hour situations, with a heaving, dynamic bassline that ebbs and flows and a collage of snappy drums. "Crampei De Balad" on the A-side is more up-tempo and similarly crisp, but its half-sung vocal might grate on the ears of some dancers.
