Pulse One - Human EP

  • Coming in after Sleeparchive's monochromatic Windows EP, Pulse One's entry into Oscar Mulero's Warm Up camp thankfully has a bit more to play with. We've already seen that he's got the breadth to put an album together, and Origins, for Spanish label Subsist, took a more explorative approach to dark, dense techno. The Buenos Aires native continued to impress with a discursive four-tracker for Fullpanda, which went ambient and atmospheric with ease. The Human EP, then, is a return to driving, minimal textures, with a splash of the dreamy stuff to boot. "Filter" and "Human" are muscular marching ammo with something nightmarish skulking way in the background. It all sounds submerged and dungeon-like. "Rise Against The Fear" provides an airy breakaway with its gurgling chords, champagne pads and fizzy hats, which is a weird delight brightening Human. Mulero steps in to toughen up and tunnel out the first two tracks, closing the EP with its most pristine and hypnotic moments.
