  • Great DJs rarely run subpar labels. By seeing firsthand how different tracks go down at the parties they play, they have a well-informed view on club music. A smart DJ will take note of these experiences, channeling them into their label. Raresh's DJ style shines through on Metereze. He plays subtle music, and constructs his sets in a way that allows each track's personality to be heard. Every record on Metereze has a distinct sound, which is no easy feat. The catalouge has remained relatively minimal, but with a huge variety of moods and textures presented throughout. The latest installment, VincentIulian's ‎Four Quarters EP, is its most functional and subdued release so far. Four Quarters is also the first Metereze record you could call chugging. It owes as much to early tech house as it does to the Romanian aesthetic, with a dubby and driving sound not far removed from what was coming out of the UK in the late-'90s. "Started" is the best example, with a dynamic bassline and a collage of sweeping synths and arpeggios. The EP's other three tracks are cut from the same cloth, but with varying degrees of energy. Four Quarters is less vibrant than the label's predecessors, but is nonetheless a solid addition to its ever-widening scope.
