Dead Fader - Sun Copter EP

  • Clear your mind, take a deep breath. Maybe sit down; you want to give your full attention to Sun Copter. Not because it's especially wounding, like the Dead Fader we were used to. It's just weird, like the strange hip-hop-noise experiments the Berlin resident has lately been turning his hand to. Except Sun Copter is something else again: the scattered pieces of a sci-fi soundtrack that only teases part of a bigger picture. Maybe because its the prelude to another album, or maybe ambiguousness is as much a part of the fabric here as anything else, but this record feels like Dead Fader is leaving the conclusions up to you. There's something unshakeably John Carpenter-like in opener "Nightmare Sequence." As for the rest, they kind of write their own stories. Vocal ghosts haunt both "Sun Copter" and "Black Maze," but otherwise all the tracks seem fiercely independent from one another. You can feel confused by it or just embrace the mystery and hope for closure in his next release.
