Jimpster - English Rose

  • Share
  • Releases from Freerange and Delusions Of Grandeur co-founder Jimpster (AKA Jamie Odell) have appeared about once a year since the mid-2000s, lending a mild sense of occasion to his output. English Rose is his first outing since 2013's Porchlights & Rockingchairs, but the gap between records has brought scant change to his well-established deep house. The title track's soft-focus keys inject summertime energy onto a percussive background already rife with it. "Solitude" and "Drakkar Noir" both bear atmospheric similarities to certain Andrés records. The former brings together tropical chimes and drums with sparky synths that add momentum and a slight techno edge; the latter is a hypnotizing nine minutes punctuated by pretty pads and little bursts of echoing piano. Jimpster's sound has such warmth that it makes sense to enjoy it in the sunshine.
