DNGLS - Hooly (Len Faki Remixes)

  • Len Faki has been ploughing further into big-room techno for the past few years. His DJ sets are often as populist as contemporary techno gets, relying on breakdowns, white noise and what sounds like the odd air raid siren to get crowds going. It's a completely different story on the label and production front. Faki's Figure imprint is among techno's best, loved by techno institution Hard Wax and countless top-tier selectors. It specializes in a trippy but functional sound that works on both festival stages and at small clubs, and Faki's productions often land in similar territory. Which is exactly what the Berliner has served up on his remix package for new US label Anemone Recordings. Faki remixes "Hooly," from a little-known producer called DNGLS, three times on the 12-inch, including a "Beatless Version." The two with beats—"Len Faki Remix" and "Len Faki Tool"—are fairly straightforward. The former is the brighter of the two, comprising euphoric keys, cymbals and a chugging bassline. "Tool" is darker and more likely to get club play. Its dubby and sinister sound will appeal to DJs who are wary of its more obvious counterpart.
