- If there's one thing Jesper Dahlbäck does well it's make club bangers. The Stockholm resident has produced a huge amount of timeless music over the years—look no further than what he dished out on Svek throughout the '90s for proof—and most of it is functional and DJ-friendly. He retains a stripped-back, smoky aesthetic, which gives many of his tracks a trippy sheen that other producers aim for but rarely accomplish. A lot of great work has also landed on Blank LTD, another Dahlbäck-owned label, which released almost 20 percussive techno records between 1996 and 2008. Now, he's revived Blank LTD with a three-tracker called Experience, which should go down well with fans of Dahlbäck's heady but functional style.
The title track is a collaboration with American producer Tony Rohr. It focuses on a chugging drumkit combo as a deep voice repeats, "Experience." It recalls a stark style brought back to the fore in 2011 and 2012 by Truncate tracks like "Modify," "Control," "Focus" and "Concentrate." More subtle and melodic sounds sit on the flip: "Existence" revolves around a series of bright stabs and weighty low-end, while "Executive" is a percussive charmer with a droning bassline. It's the most complex cut here, and probably the only one house DJs would play.
