Hamid - Cacoethes Carpendi

  • Hamid Benmessaoud is a Berlin-based producer originally from the south of France. His last couple of records were released on Minibar, and showcased a groovy and visceral take on minimal house similar to that of label chief Cabanne. Cacoethes Carpendi is the first release on the newly minted Colt Music, a Madrid imprint from the party of the same name. Presenting three infectious and carefully crafted dance floor cuts, it's a tidy debut for the young label. The blissed-out "A1" was surely conceived with sun-drenched afternoons in mind. Jazzy keys and thick bass gently caress the pleasure centres beneath a duvet of modular gurgles, recalling Audio Werner's best work. "A2" is a little more skewed, pairing a jaunty rhythm track with bright synth stabs and blurred vocal snippets. A wistful, heads-down vibe can be found on "B1," where Hamid employs atmospheric samples and tender pads to great effect. His signature shuffled percussion and writhing bassline ensure the mood doesn't stray into gooey sentimentality, pointing instead to Hamid's versatility as a producer.
