- The ever reliable Alternative route return to the scene with a production from a man that is in fantastic form. Matthew Dekay and his partner in crime in this instance, Alvredo, team up to deliver a smooth dosage of house. The track is Symbiosis, and it has impressed Sander Kleinenberg and Hernan Cattaneo in particular, that they both decided to include it in their recent Renaissance CD’s.
The Original Mix on the a-side moves very smoothly for the first half, with smooth tender drums building alongside subtle pads and delicate effects. A minimal breakdown midway then sees a nice chunky baseline take control of the track for the remainder, giving the mix a smooth and funky appeal. Not as melodic as recent productions involving Dekay, but silky nevertheless.
The Herbal Dub on the flip sees the pace and drum work intensify a little bit, while a smooth deep baseline works its way subtle underneath the beats. A more melodic approach is taken with this mix with melodic undertones working well for the most part. Definitely more uplifting then the original, this mix has a more trademark Dekay sound that we have become used to.
Another quality release by the crew at Alternative Route, not afraid to use the more melodic side of house as they have shown in the past with ‘Ride’, and now ‘Symbiosis’.
