- In its last few releases, Golf Channel has been moving towards less frequently travelled corners. Cherry Garcia's Vine Of Souls worked hot and heavy bossanova into its humid, Latin guitar-laced tracks, and a prior release, a pair of Sheila Hylton edits, was a smoothing balm of funk and reggae on a dub foundation.
The New York duo of Robbie Busch, AKA DJ McBoing Boing, and Josh Dunn, have, by comparison, released something much more in the Golf Channel tradition. These smartly assembled disco edits are slathered with filter and echo effects that soak the edges of the track like lapping tides. "I Like It" ebbs and flows in this way; the effects successfully work to keep a simple seven-minute loop interesting. "Please" travels with a more purposeful gait. There's plenty of swagger to its smacking percussion, but its ornate textures keep you guessing as to the direction it's heading in.
