Dorisburg - Computer Drumming

  • In a recent interview, Bossmusik label owner Johanna Schneider described her ideal track as "a bit scary, [with] shit loads of attitude and never-ending energy." She went on to say that she prizes functionality and records with "shit loads of drums," elements that no artist has given her more of than fellow Swede Dorisburg, AKA Genius Of Time's Alexander Berg, who helms Bossmusik's fifth release—his third for the label. In thinking about what makes "Computer Drumming 148" tick, you risk overthinking it. It's a percussive DJ tool with sparing echo and delay effects, which, at under four minutes, is little more than a binding agent, but one that would nicely glue together most tracks. "Computer Drumming 135" does the same job with similar elements over a longer period. Its melodious drum loop is the fulcrum around which densely layered hi-hats, shakers and various effects bounce and rotate. Like the preceding track, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. "Computer Drumming 128" is the EP's most dramatic cut and, with its queasy synth—a novelty component on this record—it ticks all of Schneider's boxes for a great track.
