  • Hailing from San Francisco, Josh Gabriel & Dave Dresden with vocalist Jes Brieden have released one of trance’s most played tracks at the moment under the moniker 'Motorcycle'. The track, “As The Rush Comes In” has a mainstream appeal that can’t be ignored. Already a favorite among the top Trance DJs around the globe, the track’s popularity has gained so much praise and recognition before its release that some may think that the track is simply over publicized. The very much in-demand production team of 2003 has remixed for mainstream artist like: Britney Spears; Jewel, Paul Oakenfold; and Duncan Sheik to underground artist like Grayarea; Medicine8; and Way Out West. The tandem with Jes Brieden give listeners that warm gooey feeling of a classic trance song without all those demented elements that has taken over trance music within the last few years. Part One of a two-part release from Positiva Records. This slab of vinyl sees the original Gabriel & Dresden mix with a trance anthem construction from Markus Schulz. The Gabriel & Dresden Sweeping Strings Remix starts with drum loops, a good 4/4 bass kick, and shadowy hymns of Jes’ vocals creeping in silently. Jes’ voice is raspy, but seductive at the same time. A minimal snare with the b-line in the forefront that builds for a peak-time climb that uses its cord progression perfectly to set the tone. The breakdown is very cliché, with Jes’ vocals singing, “drift deeper…as the rush comes” into the track. Your attention is drawn to the vocals as the melody starts to rush in, giving a sublime madness. With that, the track returns to its smooth trance sounds and arrangements as it nears the end. The track’s simplicity is what makes the track so beautiful; no big frills, low-end pounding snares, or hard breaks – just sweeping strings that catch the ear, as it doesn’t let you go. Markus Schulz Coldharbour Remix doesn’t compromise the sounds of the original with his reinterpretation. The sounds and structure is nearly identical with a more beefy club-friendly bass kick. Redone as a trance anthem, Schulz highlights the vocals louder and lowers the music to bring in the drum patterns and sweeping strings. A longer breakdown than G&D’s mix, Schulz uses the time let the listeners absorb the track with haunting vocal samples that rebuilds the track into a frenzy. I’ve noticed lately that Gabriel and Dresden have been remixing songs with female vocals as of late. I’m not sure if it’s coincidence or if that’s what their feeling at the moment. Either way, the new track under the Motorcycle alias is smooth - no cheese whatsoever. G&D’s mix is minimal progressive trance that’s great as a teaser for a mammoth follow-in or a good almost chill-out track. Markus Schulz’s is the peak-time builder that builds for the people to throw their hands up in the air. With its radio friendly trance structure, sweet euphonic vocals, and smooth buildups, Gabriel and Dresden have created a crossover hit that will appeal to dance and pop fiends a lot. Whatever your thoughts of the team may be, you can’t deny this hit.
