Various - Luna Tactus

  • Fullpanda welcomes two newer names to the fold with the Luna Tactus four-tracker, its first release since label boss Dasha Rush's Interception Of Arts EP from 2013. For their vinyl debut, each artist contributes a techno cut and an ambient-ish piece, all of which fit nicely into Fullpanda's eclectic world of moody and often ominous sounds. First up is Stephanie Sykes, a UK DJ and new resident at Birmingham's recently revived Atomic Jam party, with "Perplex" and "Hypo." The former is a slow-burning 4/4 track with soft, pitter-pattering drums, steely acidic resonances and atmospheric shudders. "Hypo" features a barely-there half-time pulse and dreary synth-scapes punctuated by plucked guitars and otherworldly growls. Swedish producer Fjäder (AKA Ida Matsdotter), handles the flip with a pair of particularly cosmic cuts. "Ison" is a rolling, broken-beat track—its main element a set of slippery analog chirps—whose percussion grows slowly. "Satori"'s modulated curlicues, which offer the sort of detailed ambiance you might hear on a beat-less Monolake track, sound off as clouds of noise pass overhead. All in all, a fine introduction to two artists, and a welcome return for Fullpanda.
