My Salsoul - Selected and mixed by Danny Krivit

  • Released on Suss'd Records. Now that Salsoul are alive and hip-swinging again it seems only right to give a mix CD to one of their strongest champions, New York's Danny Krivit. Krivit was an indispensable part of the Salsoul story in the 1970s, with his re-edits of tracks cropping up all over the place. And of course he was a regular fixture at David Mancuso's Loft nights, not to mention his own support slot with Larry Levan. He brings a unique approach to this CD, at one point blending elements of Frankie Knuckles, Shep Pettibone and Walter Gibbons mixes of 'Let No Man Put Asunder' into one titanic floor filler. Pettibone crops up several times, remixing Surface's 'Falling In Love', Inner Life's classic 'Moment Of Life' and Aurra's 'Such A Feeling'. Edwin Birdsong's 'Win Tonight' has one of those nagging hooks, as does the timeless Candido track 'Dancin' & Prancin''. Krivit also makes good use of his acapella material - 'Everyman' from Double Exposure opens the mix with a call to arms, and Loleatta Holloway's 'Dreamin'' also gets the treatment. Krivit has done a fair bit of post-production on this mix, and it's clear he's put a lot of thought and work into making this an indispensable document of Salsoul classics. Isn't it great to have them back?
