Nik Weston presents Sakura Aural Bliss

  • This exotic compilation of electronic underground music from Japan has been put together by Nik Weston, quite an authority on music from the East. He was the man behind the successful Music and Movement compilations last year, and once again demonstrates his ear for a good track. Sakura Aural Bliss contains some warm, summery music, with some ultra-cool beats to back the velvet keyboard sounds. It's more than simply music to wallow in though, with the Brazilian tinges of Calm's 'Dubbing For The Nature', the funked-up tracks from Sunaga T Experience and Watusi, and the darkly atmospheric 'Amniotic' from Electric Sheep. As we move more into deep house towards the end of the disc there's a great track from Calm again (the charmingly titled 'Sketch On Banana Paper') and a piano-led houser from Chari Chari. The warm red tones of the cover tell you all you'll need to know here - 'Sakura' is a richly rewarding excursion into Japanese underground sounds, refreshingly different. One to impress your mates with!
