Mark Fanciulli - The Fall

  • It's an idea that gets thrown around a lot these days, but the suggestion that Mark Fanciulli produces electronic music across the board has legs. In recent months, the Maidstone producer has delivered warehouse-inspired house for Intec Digital, hypnotic techno for Planet E, a distorted outing for Inmoition, and now a UK garage-leaning effort for Dennis Ferrer's Objektivity called The Fall. Like much of Fanciulli's output, "The Fall" references several styles at once. This time though, the deep house melodies are clouded by the UK garage-influenced grooves that make up the track's backbone. Skipping rhythms and shuffling drums interplay with a melodic bassline and catchy vocals to create a distinctly modern-sounding track. Phil Weeks' energetic remix finds a more party-focused sound with its oscillating syncopations and punchier beats, but Nasser Baker's feels like a missed opportunity by not venturing far enough from the original.
