SW. - Reminder Part Two

  • Though it would seem dramatic to call them "anonymous," the artists on SUED keep a pretty low profile. We know SVN is half of Dresvn, next to Acido Records boss Dynamo Dreesen, and that PG Sound is a man by the name of Philip Gelberg, who teamed up with SVN for a record on Acido last year under the name S.P. Posse. But basically nothing is known about SW., an artist who's been at the core of SUED since its first release in 2011. In 2013, SW. released an untitled EP with four versions of "Reminder," a techno track that was somehow both mellow and noisy. A year later, Reminder Part Two gives us four more. Here we see the otherness of the original dialed in a bit, though, as usual with SUED, all four versions have unfashionably high tempos (just north of 130 BPM). The first three versions (all four are untitled) deliver soaring rhythms and organic drum sounds (shakers, hi-hats, rim shots and so on) as well as nicely thumping kick drums—a rarity with this crew. The B2 trades the feeling of forward-momentum for a more funky, angular groove, but keeps the dreamy pads and warbling synth. All four are bright, vivid and unusually playable for SUED—less strikingly odd than the label's past efforts, but fresh and inspired nonetheless.
