Amalgam – Insatiable Minds

  • The ever-impressive Intrinsic return with a release from Amalgam, consisting of Intrinsic head honcho Christian Lewis as well as Matt Slater (aka Tocharian). Insatiable Minds is the latest production, and it has already received great support from John Digweed on his Kiss FM show, as well as plays from the likes of Danny Howells and Sasha. The Original Mix builds with a solid drum patterns and looped vocal samples, but not before long the production is smothered in nice soothing atmospheric strings and hypnotic twirling melodies. The vocal words, spoken by Carmen, give the production quite a calm and steady influence, while the musical aspects continue to build and really take off. A breakdown midway in sees the sounds and effects run free, before the track kicks in again with a nice deep baseline that sees it peak in true epic fashion. A sure fire dance floor moment, this release will definitely please. On the flip is the ElectroTechDub Mix. This mix tones down the ‘epicness’ of the original for the deeper dance floor moments, but don’t be fooled, as this mix is just as hot. The techy and slightly acidic sounds build the track up nicely while some smooth effects subtly trickle in and out. The track builds until it hits a very trippy and very clever breakdown, where the sounds get effected and filtered, leading the beats to come back into the track with a clapping hat that works ever so well. A great production. What can I say? The great quality music just keeps coming at the moment, with this release from Intrinsic definitely up there. 2 great productions here, covering two different ends of the scale, and another great release for Intrinsic is the result. Check this out, you will not be disappointed.
